Greetings,

Greetings,
I'm listening to courses on Baroque music and The History of English when I'm driving. They are both very interesting as well as interconnected (whether the Profs are aware of that or not). They mirror and express both the contemporary culture social changes of the society the are a part of. These are from The Teaching Company <www.teach12.com>, and may be found at a library near you. I am not so distracted by them that my driving is dangerous, and my mood is much better than when I listen to the radio - and that includes NPR

It is neat, seeing the interweaving of so many aspects of social life. The one lack for me is the general silence in the music lectures about what the folk music of the times was. I suspect ther was more cross-fertilization than is mentioned.
The music course is #700. I stopped listening during the description of Beethoven's "I'm doing it my way, the rest of you be hanged, I don't care" attitude. Very understandable given what his life was, but I found it very unsettling and unwholesome. No afense to those who don't have this response. I feel the same way about a lot of contemporary art -ugly, destructive, toxic. I need help with healing, I know more than I want to of the awful stuff

Good to see you here!
